20 words for Democrats The Democrats attempt to boil it down, but unlike the Republicans' magic 8 words, the Democrats have 20:

Honest Leadership & Open Govenment
Real Security
Energy Independence
Economic Prosperity
A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone
Retirement Security

The problem with these are they are too vague and are trying to hard not to offend, but they don't really mean anything. How about:

Clean Government
Strong Defense
Energy Independence
More Jobs
Affordable Healthcare
Social Security

Come on, Democrats. Use short declarative sentences.

Star Wars Improbabilities Funny short clip. Of course, this is about 5 years late, but it's still kind of funny...

Riots in Europe The French are rioting in Paris to oppose a law that would let employers fire young people during a 2-year probationary period (as opposed to current French law, which says something along the lines of that you're never allowed to fire anyone). Somehow the protesters aren't drawing the connection between youth unemployment over 20% and the fact that employers are afraid to put anyone on the books.

Meanwhile, in Rome this week, the Campo di Fiori was filled with carabinieri as a show of force against the potential for disturbance by drunken Scotsmen thrilled with having beaten Italy in the 6 Nations Rugby Tournament (for those of you keeping score at home, the 6 nations appear to be England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy).

Free Business Idea There's an article in the NYT today about the insane world of NYC private pre-school admissions among the upper class.

I hereby offer a solution. A bidder-market pre-school.

I propose to start a pre-school with two branches, one on the upper east side and one on the upper west side. There will be 20 kids in each school in two separate classrooms. All of the instructors will have Ivy-league degrees, and the head of school will have a Ph.D. School will be open from 7:30 to 6:00.

Admission will be by sealed bid for annual tuition. Not only can you buy your way in, it's the only way to get in.

How high would it go?

"Scooby Snacks" by Fun Lovin' Criminals. Because I can. Because Tarantino was so alternative 'n' stuff back in the day...
